Charli XCX & Alexander Skarsgård’s New Movie Gets Disappointing RT Score
Charli XCX and Alexander Skarsgård’s new film The Moment has opened to disappointing reviews and received a low Rotten Tomatoes score. The mockumentary, directed by Aidan Zamiri, features Charli XCX as a fictionalized version of herself. It debuted at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
What critics are saying about The Moment
Early reactions to The Moment suggest the film has struggled to win over reviewers. Directed by Aidan Zamiri, the mockumentary follows fictionalized version of Charli XCX as she prepares for her Brat tour.
Sean Boelman of FandomWire said the project failed to live up to its potential. He wrote, “With the cast and talent behind The Moment, it really should be something special, but instead, it’s an unfunny, boring experience.” He credited Charli XCX for attempting something outside a conventional tour documentary, adding that the film needed “more ambitious swings.”
James Preston Poole of DiscussingFilm criticized the execution of the mockumentary. He wrote, “It lacks the conviction to sustain that format.” However, Poole offered some praise, noting that Charli XCX remains “a magnetic screen presence throughout” and calling the film “at the very least a handsomely produced” effort.
Mey Rude of OUT compared the experience to being surrounded by style and hype without much substance. She wrote, “The Moment, was a bit like my first time trying coke: Surrounded by well-dressed cool people, but also underwhelming and surprisingly lacking any real type of kick.” Rude added hat while the movie is filled with “hyperpop edits, flashing strobes, bright colors, and in-your-face attitude,” it is “mostly forgettable.”
Gregory Nussen of ScreenRant was even harsher in his criticism. He wrote, “The Moment is a shapeless, thoroughly uninteresting exercise in self-effacement.”
The Moment gets below-mediocre score on Rotten Tomatoes
As of writing, The Moment is showing a below-mediocre score on Rotten Tomatoes. It holds a 55 percent critics’ score from 31 reviews. Audience figures on the platform’s Popcornmeter have not yet been released.
Those numbers could change once it is released in North America by A24 on January 30, 2026.
