Henry Cavill’s Highlander Has the Same Reaction From All Fans
Henry Cavill’s Highlander reboot is already sparking widespread conversation online following the release of its first official images. As excitement builds, fans are all saying the same thing about Cavill’s striking new look and what it means for the long-awaited return of the cult classic.
Fans are loving Henry Cavill’s first Highlander look
Henry Cavill has released the first official look at his character for the upcoming Highlander reboot, directed by Chad Stahelski. He posted two images on Instagram showing himself wielding a sword in what appears to be Hong Kong and New York. “Happy First Look for Highlander! This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy,” Cavill wrote.
Cavill’s caption may reference the leg injury he sustained in 2025 while training for the film, which delayed production. The movie is now filming and targeting a 2027 theatrical release. Cavill plays a 500-year-old immortal warrior trained in various martial arts, continuing the legacy of the 1986 cult film starring Christopher Lambert.
Director Chad Stahelski described the project’s scope: “We’re bringing it forward from the early 1500s in the highlands to the beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong… It’s a bit of a love story, but not how you think. On John Wick, I learned a lot on how to bend the storytelling a little… another kind of myth.” Regarding Cavill’s character, he added: “He’s the last person in the world that wanted to be in this situation… you get to experience someone that’s trained over 500 years” (via The Direct).
Fan reactions on X included one user writing, “I like Henry Cavill. I have hope for this.” Another added, “Chad Stahelski directing Henry Cavill with a sword? We are about to witness violence that is indistinguishable from fine art.” A third shared two images with the caption, “First look at Henry Cavill as the ‘HIGHLANDER’. Peak cinema incoming”.
The cast includes Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Marisa Abela. Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, and WWE star Drew McIntyre, who plays Angus MacLeod, also join the lineup.
