The Flash, Robert Pattinson’s Batman Get DCU Updates From James Gunn

James Gunn has commented on fans’ requests for Robert Pattinson’s Batman and Grant Gustin’s The Flash to join the DCU.

Gustin played Barry Allen in The Flash television series. Having premiered on The CW in 2014, the show ran for nine seasons until 2023. Gustin’s performance was widely praised by many, and some DC fans have expressed their desire to see him reprise that role in Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU.

Pattinson, meanwhile, stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Epic Crime Saga. The first movie set in this world, The Batman, was released in 2022, while The Penguin spin-off show followed in 2027. A sequel to The Batman is now dated for 2027.

What did James Gunn say about Robert Pattinson and Grant Gustin?

On Threads, Gunn responded to some posts regarding Gustin and Pattinson joining DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures‘ DCU. One of them was a picture of Gustin as Barry with the caption,” This gotta happen,” to which Gunn humorously responded, “It happened on TV for 9 seasons.”

Another comment, which has since been deleted, asked if there was any chance Pattinson could appear in the DCU as Batman, even as “some sort of variant” who is “disconnected from the Matt Reeves’ movies.”

Gunn simply said, “No.”

At this time, there’s been no announcement about if/when The Flash will show up in the DCU. This also raises the question as to whether or not the DCU’s main Flash will be Barry or Wally West, though there is, of course, the possibility that they could both be featured.

As for Batman, a The Brave and the Bold movie is in the works, though progress appears to be moving slowly on it, as the project was announced in January 2023, and it still doesn’t have a release date. The most recent update was that Christina Hodson had been tapped to work on the script.
