Dave Bautista & Jason Momoa’s Action Comedy Debuts With Stellar RT Score

The upcoming Prime Video action comedy, featuring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, is already making a strong impression ahead of its release. The Wrecking Crew has received an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score and reviews.

What critics are saying about The Wrecking Crew in reviews

Early The Wrecking Crew reviews point to the leads’ on-screen rapport as the movie’s biggest strength.

Richard Kuipers of Variety wrote, “The crux of the movie is how well Bautista and Momoa fire off each other once Jonny returns to his roots in Hawai’i.”

Similarly, Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter noted, “Movies like this depend almost entirely on chemistry between the co-stars, and fortunately, Bautista and Momoa have plenty of it.”

Leslie Felperin of The Guardian described the film as “The whole package is an easily digested guilty pleasure.”

Nick Schager of The Daily Beast added, “Never quite as funny as it wants to be, but making up for that in the violence department, it’s a healthy serving of slam-bang cinematic comfort food.”

The Wrecking Crew gets a strong score on Rotten Tomatoes

As of writing, The Wrecking Crew’s Rotten Tomatoes score stands at 85%, making it a solid start for the Prime Video release, which premieres on January 28. Reviews indicate that while the story may not reinvent the action-comedy formula, the performances elevate the material.

In the film, Momoa and Bautista play half-brothers Jonny, a police officer, and James, a Navy SEAL. The pair reunite to investigate their father’s death, initially believed to be a hit-and-run, only to uncover deeper conspiracies that force them to confront both external threats and their strained relationship.

Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, with a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper, the R-rated film also features a large supporting cast including Claes Bang, Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, Morena Baccarin, and Stephen Root. The movie promises action-heavy set pieces, car chases, and humor throughout.
