Project Hail Mary Runtime Makes It Ryan Gosling’s Longest Movie Ever
The runtime for Project Hail Mary has been revealed, and it’s the longest movie of Ryan Gosling‘s career.
What is the runtime for Project Hail Mary?
According to listings on Yosemite Cinema, Project Hail Mary’s runtime is listed at 2 hours and 46 minutes. That surpasses the 2-hour-and-43-minute runtime of Blade Runner 2049, which previously held the record for the longest movie of Gosling’s career. Project Hail Mary is also longer than another Andy Weir adaptation, The Martian, which runs for 2 hours and 21 minutes.
“Science teacher Ryland Grace wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of a mysterious substance causing the sun to die out,” the official synopsis reads. “He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction. But an unexpected friendship means he may not have to face this impossible challenge alone.”
Gosling leads Project Hail Mary as Ryland Grace, the teacher tasked with saving the world. The cast includes Sandra Hüller as Eva Stratt, Lionel Boyce as Officer Steve Hatch, and Milana Vayntrub as Olesya Ilyukhina.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller direct Project Hail Mary, their first live-action directorial effort since 2014’s Jump Street. Lord and Miller were famously fired as the directors of 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Ron Howard replaced the duo.
The screenplay is written by Drew Goddard, based on Weir’s 2021 bestselling novel of the same name. Project Hail Mary’s producers include Gosling, Lord, Miller, Weir, Amy Pascal, Aditya Sood, and Rachel O’Connor.
Amazon MGM Studios will release Project Hail Mary in the U.S. on March 20, 2026.
