A description of the plot reads, “Eccentric millionaire Fredrick Loren and his 4th wife Annabelle have invited five people to the house on Haunted Hill for a party and the chance to win $10,000 dollars! What the guests don’t realize is that they are trapped inside the house with ghosts, murderers, and other terrors, and that no amount of money is worth the price of their life!”
In addition to Price, the movie stars Carol Ohmart, Richard Long, Alan Marshal, Carolyn Craig, Elisha Cook Jr., Julie Mitchum, Leona Anderson, and Howard Hoffman.
The movie is directed by William Castle, who was known for using promotional gimmicks during his films’ original theatrical releases. House on Haunted Hill used a gimmick called “Emergo,” which meant that some theaters would have a plastic skeleton flown over the audience during a scene late in the film.
House on Haunted Hill was remade into a 1999 movie of the same name. That film, directed by William Malone, stars Geoffrey Rush, Famke Janssen, and Taye Diggs, and it’s currently available to stream on Hoopla. It was followed by a direct-to-DVD sequel, Return to House on Haunted Hill, in 2007, and that movie can be streamed on The Roku Channel.
