Netflix’s upcoming crime thriller reportedly brings together a pair of acclaimed actors for a tense, globe-spanning story. The project, said to be based on real events, explores a high-level conspiracy and the dangerous pursuit that follows.
Mark Wahlberg and Riz Ahmed to lead crime thriller movie from Baltasar Kormákur
Mark Wahlberg and Riz Ahmed will star in The Big Fix, a new crime thriller that Baltasar Kormákur directs for Netflix and Chernin Entertainment, Deadline reported.
Reportedly inspired by a true story, the film follows a former Interpol officer who now works at FIFA and comes to know about a global match-fixing scandal. Wahlberg is expected to portray the ex-Interpol agent, while Ahmed will portray the role of a hustler working with Chinese Triads to rig football matches (via ScreenRant).
The story becomes a high-stakes, globe-spanning cat-and-mouse thriller between the two characters. Guy Bolton and Justin Haythe have been tapped to write the script. Kormákur produces the film with Peter Chernin and David Ready, while Bennett Walsh and Jenno Topping serve as executive producers. The production is likely to begin later in 2026.
This marks a reunion for Wahlberg and Kormákur, who previously collaborated on the films Contraband and 2 Guns. The latter is a buddy cop thriller co-starring Denzel Washington that grossed $131 million worldwide. The Big Fix is part of an ongoing collaboration between Netflix and Chernin Entertainment.
Riz Ahmed received critical acclaim for his performance in Relay and won an Emmy for his role in The Night Of. He will also appear in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s upcoming film Digger. Mark Wahlberg last appeared in The Family Plan 2 and will star in Netflix’s The Operator.
Netflix and Chernin Entertainment will release Kormákur’s next thriller, Apex, featuring Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton, on April 24, 2026. Even before Kormákur completed Apex, Netflix and Chernin had already started throwing ideas for their next collaboration, which went on to become The Big Fix.
