New report claims Timothy Busfield has been edited out from Amazon rom-com
Multiple sources confirm that Amazon MGM Studios edited Timothy Busfield out of the upcoming romantic comedy You Deserve Each Other.
Filmmakers removed his scenes as Bernie, the father of Meghann Fahy’s character Naomi, from the final cut, despite completing his role during production. The decision followed the authorities’ arresting and charging Busfield with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse. The charges stem from alleged incidents involving child actors on the set of The Cleaning Lady, a Fox/Warner Bros. TV series that Busfield directed across its 2022–2025 run.
According to an arrest warrant issued January 9, the charges involve 11-year-old twin boys (via PEOPLE). Busfield turned himself in to Albuquerque police on January 13, and authorities are holding him without bond at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center.
Busfield has denied the allegations. In a video released before his arrest, he stated, “I’m going to confront these lies. They’re horrible, they’re all lies, and I did not do anything to those little boys. And I’m going to fight it. I’m going to fight it with a great team, and I’m going to be exonerated” (via Deadline). His wife, Melissa Gilbert, is listed as a potential witness in the case. A pretrial detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, January 20.
Amazon MGM Studios has not issued a comment on removing Busfield from the film. The studio announced his casting in July, along with Penn Badgley, Natalie Morales, Justin Long, Kyle MacLachlan, Ana Gasteyer, Hope Davis, and others.
Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn directed the film, which adapts Sarah Hogle’s 2020 novel. The production has completed filming, but the studio has not set a release date. Busfield’s longtime agency, Innovative Artists, has dropped him.
