Universal Wants A-List Actor for The Mummy 4 & New Movie – Report
The Brendan Fraser-led The Mummy franchise is currently enroute to return to the big screen, with recent speculation also hinting at the comeback of a legacy character in Part 4. The latest update to come out of the rumor mill suggests that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson might just reprise his role as the Scorpion King in the upcoming Mummy installment.
Why Dwayne Johnson could return as the Scorpion King in The Mummy 4
According to the latest update by renowned internet scooper Daniel Richtman, Universal Pictures is actively trying to get The Smashing Machine star to play the Scorpion King in the forthcoming Mummy edition.
Although Richtman failed to specify the capacity of Dwayne Johnson’s role in The Mummy 4, he did reveal that Universal is reportedly seeking to close a multi-picture deal with. “Universal wants The Rock back for a new Scorpion King, and they also want him in the next ‘Mummy’ movie for at least a cameo,” he noted in his Patreon update.
The briefing regarding the Scorpion King’s potential comeback in The Mummy 4 comes after Johnson himself expressed interest in coming back to the role that brought him global stardom back in 2001.
In a December 2025 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the wrestler-turned-actor noted, “I don’t know. I’m always open. To be clear, that is Brendan Fraser’s franchise. I love that man. He’s one of my great supporters. We support each other, and if they want to call the Scorpion King, I know a guy who knows a guy…I would certainly consider it. Yeah, because also, that franchise changed my life.”
Notably, Dwayne Johnson made his debut as the Scorpion King (also known as Mathayus) in 2001’s The Mummy Returns, embodying the film’s primary antagonist. Owing to the popularity of his performance, his character received a dedicated spin-off movie a year later, with The Scorpion King debuting in 2002.
Despite the encouraging updates regarding The Mummy 4, Universal has yet to officially confirm the return of Brendan Fraser and company. The studio has also not shared any substantial information about the movie’s production or release date window.
