Man of Tomorrow’s James Gunn on if Actors Auditioned for Batman & Wonder Woman
Speculation around Superman: Man of Tomorrow has intensified in recent weeks, with online rumors claiming the DCU’s Batman and Wonder Woman would appear in the film. Now, James Gunn has directly addressed those claims.
James Gunn gives disappointing answers on Batman and Wonder Woman’s Man of Tomorrow casting
Much has been said about Wonder Woman making her DCU debut in Gunn’s upcoming Superman sequel, with some fans convinced that Diana Prince would appear alongside Batman. Those theories gained traction after reports suggested secret auditions for both characters had taken place toward the end of 2025.
Responding to fan questions on Threads, the director of Superman dismissed the speculation outright. When asked whether actors had auditioned for Batman and Wonder Woman, James Gunn replied, “No. All these rumors of Batman and Wonder Woman auditions are false.” When pressed further on theories that both characters might still appear in some capacity, Gunn added a straight follow-up: “Yep.”
The filmmaker also clarified why the rumors may have gained momentum in the first place. “We are currently casting a female character in [Man of Tomorrow],” Gunn explained. “My only guess is scoopers are taking a stab at guessing that’s [Wonder Woman].” He later noted, “Probably. If only because if you guess about enough stuff something is likely to be true every once in a while. But I can’t think of something true off hand.”
Gunn further emphasized that Man of Tomorrow’s biggest casting reveal has already happened. “The big news was Brainiac,” he said, adding that most sizable roles belong to characters audiences have already met, while smaller parts are currently being filled. Based on those comments, expectations of Batman or Wonder Woman entering the DCU through Man of Tomorrow now appear misplaced.
Written and directed by Gunn, Man of Tomorrow stars David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on July 9, 2027.
