James Gunn Sets Record Straight on Batman & The Flash DCU Rumors

James Gunn has taken to social media to throw some cold water on two rumors regarding the DCU’s Batman and The Flash.

What did James Gunn say about the Batman and The Flash DCU rumors?

In a recent series of posts on Threads, Gunn answered some fan questions regarding upcoming projects in the DCU. For starters, Gunn was asked if recent reports that the DCU Batman movie, Brave and the Bold, had finished its screenplay and set a 2028 release date window, were true. According to Gunn, the story is completely false.

“Fiction, sorry. Screenplay isn’t finished,” said Gunn when asked. Gunn was also asked about rumors that a “secret screen testing for Batman” had occurred last year. Gunn was equally puzzled by that, saying it would be strange since neither Batman movie had started production yet.

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios’ The Brave and the Bold is being directed by Andy Muschietti, who previously made 2023’s The Flash. The project was initially announced in 2023, shortly after James Gunn and Peter Safran became co-CEOs and co-chairmen of DC Studios. However, there haven’t been many significant updates or announcements regarding The Brave and the Bold since then.

While James Gunn has previously said that his focus now is on helping Reeves and The Batman 2 release, it will be interesting to follow as we get closer to both films’ potential release dates. Of course, the Brave and the Bold’s release is not confirmed as of yet, so we’ll have to wait for more information to come forward on it.

Elsewhere on Threads, Gunn responded to a fan who adamantly wanted Grant Gustin (who played The Flash in the CW series) to return as the character in the DCU, or else fans would “riot.” Gunn joked that he’s heard that a lot from fans, but has yet to actually see it happen.

“I keep being told people are going to riot over things but I am as of yet to see a riot. Love Grant by the way. I don’t know what Elliot has to do with anything,” Gunn said.
