Ashton Kutcher praises Demi Moore for The Substance, talks similarities with The Beauty

Ashton Kutcher has commented on Demi Moore’s recent performance in The Substance while addressing early comparisons between the film and his upcoming FX series The Beauty.

Kutcher, who appears in The Beauty alongside Anthony Ramos and Jeremy Pope, spoke with Entertainment Tonight as the series prepares to premiere on January 21. During the discussion, the actors were asked about the increased interest in the body-horror genre and how The Substance has been referenced in conversations around the series.

Responding to those comparisons, Kutcher highlighted Moore’s work in the film. “One Demi’s performance in The Substance, like obviously, she got extraordinary accolades. I’m so proud of her. She like killed it,” he said. The actor emphasized that both projects reflect broader shifts in society. He pointed to the normalization of cosmetic procedures. “We’re in a society where there’s cosmetic enhancement is becoming like increasingly like predominant and accepted,” he said.

Kutcher argued that public perception has gradually moved away from judgment towards acceptance, noting how attitudes have evolved over time. He explained, “And it used to be like, braces were the only, like, on your teeth were the only acceptable cosmetic enhancement. Otherwise, you’d be judged for it.” The actor added, “And then gradually there’s like a social acceptance of like, hey, no, that makes that person feel happy, and that’s what matters more than any aesthetic outcome.”

Kutcher added that growing acceptance has also led to cosmetic tourism, raising broader questions about definition of beauty. According to him, the series explores those ideas through the perspectives of its characters.
