Glen Powell & Mr. Robot Creator Unite for Major Sci-Fi Movie
A new science fiction project is quietly generating buzz as Glenn Powell and a celebrated TV creator move closer to a collaboration. With studios circling and details still largely under wraps, the project is shaping up as one of the more intriguing genre plays currently in development.
Glen Powell to star in a movie written and directed by Sam Esmail
Glen Powell is in negotiations to star in Tesseract, an original science fiction feature written and directed by Sam Esmail, best known for creating Mr. Robot. The project has landed at Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists, giving it a strong studio backing even as it remains in the development stage.
This project unites two of the entertainment industry’s most sought-after talents at the peak of their momentum. Glen Powell, riding a wave of success from Twisters, The Running Man, and his Golden Globe-nominated turn in Chad Powers, is negotiating not only to star but also to produce through his Barnstorm Productions banner alongside partner Dan Cohen. For Sam Esmail, Tesseract is his next directorial feature following the Netflix smash Leave the World Behind, and continues his pivot into assembling A-list casts for big-screen projects.
The film is also a significant early win for United Artists’ Scott Stuber under his new deal at Amazon. While the project is not yet formally greenlit, Deadline’s report indicates it is a high priority. According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources claim that planning is underway for a potential summer shoot in London and Hungary.
Esmail, who will also produce via his Esmail Corp with Chad Hamilton, is known for tightly guarded plots, and Tesseract seems to be no exception. Details remain firmly under wraps, with the movie simply described as an original sci-fi feature. However, sources state the story will require two other lead roles, both female, alongside Glen Powell’s character (via THR).
