James Cameron’s Beloved Sci-fi Movie To Leave Netflix Soon

Netflix will soon remove a legendary sci-fi film featuring a time-traveling cyborg assassin, marking the exit of a genre-defining classic. A new report confirms that the platform will drop the 1980s action classic at the start of the month. This marks the departure of a major genre-defining film from its U.S. library.

The Terminator is leaving Netflix in February

Netflix US will remove The Terminator on February 1, 2026, according to What’s on Netflix. The 1984 science fiction action film, directed by James Cameron and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn, and Linda Hamilton, appears on the official list of titles scheduled to leave the platform at the beginning of the month.

The film earned $78 million worldwide on a $6.4 million budget, achieving major box office success. It follows a cyborg assassin who travels from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor, whose unborn son will lead the fight against Skynet, an artificial intelligence system that aims to eliminate humanity. Kyle Reese, a soldier from the future, also travels back in time to protect her.

Audiences and critics recognize The Terminator as a landmark in science fiction and action filmmaking. It uses a combination of practical effects, stop-motion animation, and Brad Fiedel’s synthesizer-based score. The film’s themes of AI threat, time travel, and cybernetic infiltration helped shape the genre and inspired many later works.

The movie launched a franchise that includes five sequels, a television series, comic books, and video games. In 2008, the Library of Congress added the film to the United States National Film Registry. The selection recognized its cultural, historical, and aesthetic importance.

Other titles scheduled to leave Netflix on the same day include Parasite (2019), Oblivion (2013), Groundhog Day (1993), Charlie’s Angels (2000), and The Patriot (2000). Netflix removes titles as licensing agreements expire, and removal dates can vary by region.
