Chloë Grace Moretz’s Sci-Fi Disaster Movie Is Leaving Netflix Soon
The coming month is not only going to bring a fresh batch of titles to Netflix‘s doors, but will also witness the departure of a host of action, sci-fi, and thriller movies and TV shows. One such dystopian sci-fi action fest, which features Kick-Ass star Chloë Grace Moretz in the lead, is also at the cusp of leaving Netflix, much to the dismay of its fans.
The 5th Wave is leaving Netflix next month
Netflix subscribers have a little over two weeks left to enjoy 2016’s The 5th Wave on their preferred screen, as the title will be making its way out of the renowned streaming platform’s content library next month. Based on Rick Yancey’s 2013 novel of the same name, The 5th Wave will officially exit Netflix on February 1, 2026.
Helmed by J Blakeson, the dystopian thriller revolves around the escapades of an Ohio high schooler, Cassie, played masterfully by Chloë Grace Moretz. The movie showcases Earth sustaining an alien invasion, which leaves the planet in ruins. Having already attacked Earth four times, the extraterrestrial beings prepare for a fifth charge in a bid to completely wipe out humanity. Despite facing the threat of extinction, Cassie decides to face all the dangers to ensure the survival of her younger brother.
In addition to Chloë Grace Moretz, the 2016 disaster movie includes a capable supporting cast, featuring the likes of Nick Robinson, Ron Livingston, Maggie Siff, Maika Monroe, Liev Schreiber, Tony Revolori, Talitha Bateman, Nadji Jeter, and Zackary Arthur, among others.
Upon its release, the movie failed to impress anyone, with both viewers and critics slamming it for its subpar quality. The 5th Wave could only muster a woeful 17% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the audience’s Popcornmeter score sitting at a slightly better 38%. Nevertheless, its critical shortcomings couldn’t stop The 5th Wave from enjoying a fruitful box office run, earning close to $110 million at the global box office against a reported budget of $38 million as per Box Office Mojo.
