Shrek Fans Demand the Unmade Lord Farquaad Movie From Universal

KPop Demon Hunters writers developed a Lord Farquaad movie and fans want it

Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, co-writers of KPop Demon Hunters, have developed a Lord Farquaad-focused feature for DreamWorks Animation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

While details about the plot and release date remain undisclosed, this development has sparked excitement among fans of the Shrek franchise. THR confirms that Jimenez and McMechan wrote the Lord Farquaad film during their slate of projects following the success of KPop Demon Hunters.

The duo also co-wrote a Cheech & Chong biopic for Hidden Pictures. They are currently scripting Tim Burton’s remake of Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman, expanding their footprint in major franchises.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the Burton project, they said, “We’re obsessed with the idea of a fifty-foot woman wreaking havoc because a man did her dirty. We have a feeling a lot of people will relate.” The writers first gained recognition for KPop Demon Hunters, which became Netflix’s most-watched film and earned multiple awards, including two wins at the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards and three Golden Globe nominations.

Fan reactions to the Lord Farquaad news have been swift and largely enthusiastic. “DreamWorks taking risks again… I’m simultaneously excited and terrified,” one user wrote on X. Another speculated, “Him being the villain of Shrek 5 would be hilarious. Imagine thinking he was dead and he comes back.”

A third comment simply read, “God, please let this happen!” Fans are theorizing that the feature could be a prequel due to Farquaad’s fate in the original Shrek film.

DreamWorks has not yet released further information on the project. The studio previously teased Shrek 5 for a December 23, 2026 release, continuing renewed interest in the franchise.
