The Watchmen director recently treated his social media followers to a well-defined portrait photo of Clark Kent as a waiter. In Man of Steel, one of Kent’s odd jobs while traveling the world after Jonathan Kent’s death and before becoming Superman was a waiter at a bar and restaurant.

“Everyone’s gotta get a job — even Superman. Before saving the world, Clark Kent was waiting tables.” Zack Snyder captioned the Instagram post, which has received 70.2k likes as of writing.

Kent’s job waiting tables is shown in one of the 2013 film’s pivotal scenes, highlighting Superman’s incredible power and strength of character.

In the scene, a nasty truck driver visits a bar where Kent works and starts sexually harassing one of the latter’s female colleagues. Before the harassment can proceed, he interferes and tells the driver to leave the woman alone. The driver does not take this well and threatens him, asking what he will do.

Kent coldly but calmly responds that he will have to ask the man to leave. The man counters by saying that he will leave when he feels like before humiliating the former in front of other patrons by throwing some of the beer he was drinking on his face.

Angered, Kent coldly glares at the truck driver, who tries to push him to the ground but fails due to the former’s strength. Before he can retaliate, the woman stops and convinces him that it’s not worth it. Kent listens and exits the bar, opting not to hurt the driver. However, as he is leaving, the driver mockingly tells him he forgot his tip before throwing a can at him.

After leaving, Kent takes out his anger on the driver by destroying the latter’s truck off-screen. The driver becomes dismayed at seeing his ruined truck after exiting the bar himself.

Released in June 2013, Man of Steel was Henry Cavill’s first outing as Clark Kent, AKA Superman. The film also features Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, and Russell Crowe, among others.
