Upcoming Disney+ Update Will Add Major New Feature

Disney has announced the upcoming launch of for Disney+, which aims to boost the streaming platform’s daily engagement. The news was revealed during the company’s Tech + Data showcase at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

What is the new Disney+ feature?

Per THR, Disney Entertainment and ESPN executive Erin Teague has confirmed that the company will officially be adding short-form vertical videos on Disney+ as a new feature that is expected to launch over the next year. This comes after ESPN introduced “Verts” into its app last August. It was described as ESPN’s modern video experience that re-imagines the way sports fans can watch video clips. Its launch helped Disney with understanding the user response to vertical videos.

“We want to bring the best of what makes our live products great, from ESPN to ABC News to Hulu Plus Live TV, all into this unified environment,” Teague said. “We’re also thinking about mobile-first experiences. We know that mobile is an incredible opportunity to turn Disney+ into a true daily destination for fans, so that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”

She continued, “Over the next year, we’re introducing vertical video experiences on Disney+, think all of the short-form Disney content you want, all in one unified app. Over time, we’ll evolve these experiences as we explore applications for a variety of formats, categories, and content types for a dynamic feed of just what you’re interested in, from sports, news, and entertainment, refreshed in real time based on your last visit.”
