Kristen Stewart Wants To Return to Twilight but Not as Bella

Kristen Stewart addressed the possibility of returning to the Twilight franchise during a recent interview, but not in the way fans might expect. The actress and director discussed how she sees herself returning to the saga. She described a new role that differs from the one that launched her to stardom.

Kristen Stewart wants to ‘readapt’ Twilight books

At Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch and Creative Impact Awards, Entertainment Tonight asked Kristen Stewart if she would consider revisiting the Twilight franchise as a director. To this, she said, “Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!”

She added, “I would love — look. I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies. They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up.” Stewart further stated, “Imagine if we had a huge budget and a bunch of love and support. I don’t know — I would love to readapt.”

Kristen Stewart played Bella Swan in five Twilight films released between 2008 and 2012. The movies were adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s novels. The franchise catapulted her to global fame alongside Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Catherine Hardwicke directed the first film. Chris Weitz, David Slade, and Bill Condon directed New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2, respectively.

Stewart directed The Chronology of Water in 2025, earning a spot on Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch. At the event, she reflected on directing and said, “I’ve been working on other people’s films for my whole life, since I was nine years old… It’s just what I’ve wanted to do my whole life.”

In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she commented on Catherine Hardwicke’s work. Stewart noted, “Being able to withstand and organize that many opinions, and still make something that feels like yours, is near impossible to do.”
