Zootopia Part 3 Release Date Gets Great News From Sequel Director

Following the immense success of Zootopia 2 at the worldwide box office, updates regarding Part 3 have started to pour in, with the sequel directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard recently hinting at the possible release date window of the next installment. In a recent interview, the duo talked about the much-discussed third part of the animated franchise, confirming that they’ve already started planning the project.

Jared Bush suggests Zootopia 3 could premiere sometime in 2030

During a recent Q&A session with Weibo users, Byron Howard and Jared Bush opened up about the possible release date schedule of Zootopia 3, with the latter noting that they are currently in the nascent stages of the “5-year production cycle” they have for any project.

When asked about when fans can expect the Zootopia threequel to arrive, the chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios jokingly blamed Howard for taking too long to complete Part 2. “Byron is lazy; he likes to take his time,” Bush noted before breaking out into laughter. (via SINA)

Howard then acknowledged his time-taking creative approach by saying, “I do like to take it slow, but 9 years was too long. We promise the next one won’t take that long.”

Moreover, Bush reiterated his co-director’s sentiments regarding the release date window of Zootopia 3. He stated, “Definitely less than 9 years. We are currently in the ‘idea exploration’ phase, which usually takes the first 2-3 years of a 5-year production cycle.”

As such, Zootopia 3 could have a 2030 release date, provided everything goes according to Bush’s proposed plan. Despite the long wait, it would still be a shorter buffer period than the time gap between the first two Zootopia movies. Notably, the first installment made its big-screen debut back in 2016, with its sequel hitting theaters nine years later in November 2025.

Nevertheless, Zootopia 2 has already managed to surpass its predecessor at the box office. As per Box Office Mojo, it boasts a global collection of $1.2 billion, as compared to the original movie’s lifetime collection of $1 billion.
