Prime Video has announced that The Big Lebowski, the 1998 cult classic crime comedy featuring Jeff Bridges, will be added to its streaming catalog at the end of January. The film is set to become available on the platform on January 31, 2026.
The story centers on Jeffrey Lebowski, who goes by the nickname “The Dude,” a Los Angeles resident whose quiet routine is disrupted after he is mistaken for a wealthy man with the same name. Following a home invasion that leaves his rug destroyed, The Dude seeks compensation. However, he soon gets involved in a bizarre string of events involving ransom money, criminal schemes, and kidnapping. The film was originally released in March 1998.
Bridges leads the film as Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski. The ensemble cast includes John Goodman as Walter Sobchak, Julianne Moore as Maude Lebowski, Steve Buscemi as Donny, and David Huddleston as Jeffrey “The Big” Lebowski.
Critical reception has remained largely favorable over time. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 79 percent critics’ score based on more than 190 reviews. Meanwhile, audience response has been significantly stronger, with a 93 percent Popcornmeter rating.
The film’s initial theatrical run produced modest financial results, but it went on to develop a strong following. The Big Lebowski earned approximately $19.4 million at the box office in the United States and Canada, with an additional $28.8 million from international markets, bringing its worldwide total to about $48.2 million (via Box Office Mojo).
With its upcoming release on Prime Video, The Big Lebowski is set to reach both returning viewers and new audiences.
