Anemone 4K Review: Daniel Day-Lewis Is Still Remarkable

2025 featured the return of Daniel Day-Lewis, who starred in his first movie since 2017’s Phantom Thread by Paul Thomas Anderson. While his latest film, which he co-wrote with his son Ronan Day-Lewis (who also directed it), doesn’t live up to some of his past work, it’s clear that Day-Lewis is still in top form as an actor. The new Anemone 4K release allows fans to own Day-Lewis’ comeback.

“The film explores the complex and profound ties that exist between brothers, fathers, and sons,” reads the synopsis.

What makes Anemone worth watching is its lead performances. Seeing Day-Lewis back on screen is a treat. His delivery and ability to fully sink into the character he is playing are still unmatched. DDL is joined by Sean Bean, who manages to give a great performance of his own, and there are some scenes between the two leads that are truly captivating. While the film doesn’t fully come together and runs a bit too long, it’s still a thoughtful and interesting drama.

What isn’t as divisive is the quality of the Anemone 4K disc. The film, which is shot very stylistically by Ronan, looks incredible. The transfer allows for the forest scenery to really captivate, and the shadows look fantastic, especially on an OLED TV. The sound is also top-notch with a Dolby Atmos mix, as Day-Lewis’ speeches really get to sink in.

Sadly, there are no bonus features on the Anemone 4K release, not even the film’s trailer. That’s a shame, as an audio commentary with father and son would’ve been particularly interesting. It does come with a Blu-ray and a digital code, though, so at least it’s fully featured in that regard.

Anemone 4K Review: Final Verdict

Anemone is a striking return for Daniel Day-Lewis, who hasn’t missed a step as an actor and is still one of our all-time great thespians. While the film doesn’t fully come together and add another masterpiece to his filmography, Ronan Day-Lewis delivers a solid debut that takes full advantage of its talented cast. Fans of DDL will certainly want to check it out, and it’s worth having in your collection thanks to a great transfer.
