Avatar 4’s ‘Big Shift’ Was Decided a Decade Ago, Major Change Revealed
Avatar 4 has a new update, and according to one of its stars, she’s known about this change for a long time.
What did Sigourney Weaver say about Avatar 4?
Sigourney Weaver, who plays Kiri, will be the narrator of Avatar 4. Weaver revealed the news in an interview with Jake Hamilton.
“I narrate the next one,” Weaver said about narrating Avatar 4. “It’s a major part of the saga for Kiri.”
Weaver becomes the third narrator of the Avatar movies. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) narrated the first two movies, and Lo’ak (Britain Dalton) handled narration in Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Weaver said she learned of the news a few years after Avatar came out when James Cameron decided to write multiple sequels.
“We didn’t know until after Avatar worked so well with the audiences around the world,” Weaver explained. “He [Cameron] went off and started writing once they decided to continue the saga because he had a big story in mind. I think that was probably in 2013, 2014.”
Weaver said Cameron might have adjusted a few ideas in the scripts for Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, but they are mostly the same stories that were originally written over a decade ago.
“It’s a big shift in [Avatar] 4 and 5,” Weaver added.
Weaver initially joined the franchise in Avatar as Dr. Grace Augustine, the scientist in charge of the Avatar program. Grace eventually becomes an adviser to Jake Sully and joins in his fight to save the Na’vi from the RDA. Unfortunately, Grace dies toward the end of the film.
In Avatar: The Way of Water, Weaver plays Kiri, a teenage girl adopted by Jake and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña). Kiri is the daughter of Grace’s Na’vi avatar.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is now in theaters. Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 are scheduled to be released in 2029 and 2031, respectively.
