Wonder Woman Almost Included Another Strong DC Villain
Jason Fuchs opened up about his experience writing Wonder Woman (2017), during a recent podcast appearance. He revealed how Darkseid‘s son, Kalibak, almost appeared in the film’s post-credits scene, which would help connect the film to Justice League, which also came out in the same year. Fuchs also discussed his latest project, It: Welcome to Derry, and revealed details about a Lobo feature film script that did not move forward into production.
Wonder Woman’s scrapped setting and post-credits scene revealed
During his appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jason Fuchs discussed a variety of topics with the host, ranging from his work on It: Welcome to Derry, to his involvement in DC projects.
While speaking about his work on Wonder Woman (2017), Fuchs mentioned he was very proud of the “love letter” aspect he could bring to the film, comparing it to The Little Mermaid. Further, mentioning moments and scenes that didn’t make the final cut of the film, Fuchs revealed, “Well, there’s a few.”
“We had an initial draft that took place in the Crimean War,” he shared. “And there was a great encounter between Diana and Florence Nightingale, right before Diana participated in the Charge of the Light Brigade,” Fuchs added.
The Argylle writer then shared details about another interesting scene that didn’t make the cut. “There was also a version that ended with a post-credits sequence that included Kalibak, a great deep cut DC canon character,” he said.
In the comics, Kalibak is the firstborn son of Darkseid and half-brother to Orion and Grayven. He was imprisoned on Earth during the Apokolips Civil War. Further, Fuchs went on to reveal one more Wonder Woman scene that didn’t see the light of day.
“The thing I most wish we’d done—there just wasn’t time to do it—is in that third act, when the final battle’s going on between Diana and Ares, and the fate of World War I hangs in the balance, there was a version of the third act I’d written where I was trying to find a way to involve regular human women in the success and not just Diana, who has powers.” the writer said.
