New Terminator Movie Gets Exciting Update, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Status Revealed
James Cameron shared a massive update about his new Terminator movie, which will not feature the franchise’s biggest star.
What is James Cameron’s new Terminator movie update?
As he prepares for the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, Cameron has started to plan for his next project. During an interview with THR, the Oscar winner shared details about “quietly revisiting” The Terminator franchise.
“Once the dust clears on Avatar in a couple of months, I’m going to really plunge into that [The Terminator],” he says. “There are a lot of narrative problems to solve. The biggest is how do I stay enough ahead of what’s really happening to make it science fiction?”
Cameron remained coy about the new Terminator movie’s premise. One thing he did make clear is that it will not include Arnold Schwarzenegger, who famously played the T-800 in The Terminator and several of its subsequent sequels.
“I can safely say he won’t be [in it],” Cameron explained. “It’s time for a new generation of characters. I insisted Arnold had to be involved in Terminator: Dark Fate, and it was a great finish to him playing the T-800. There needs to be a broader interpretation of Terminator and the idea of a time war and super intelligence. I want to do new stuff that people aren’t imagining.”
Cameron first introduced audiences to the T-800 in 1984’s The Terminator, the groundbreaking sci-fi action movie starring Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton. The movie helped catapult the careers of Cameron, Schwarzenegger, and Hamilton.
Seven years later, the creative trio returned for 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which is now considered one of the greatest sequels ever made. Additional sequels include 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, 2009’s Terminator Salvation, 2015’s Terminator Genisys, and 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate.
The Terminator franchise also expanded into television with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and the animated Terminator Zero.
