Influential Horror Movie Gets 2nd Remake After Terrible 1995 Film
Radial Entertainment has announced that Strangers with Candy collaborators Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris are officially developing a remake of director Roger Corman’s classic sci-fi horror movie The Wasp Woman.
This project serves as a reunion for the long-time friends who first met as cast members at The Second City touring company in the early ‘90s with Stephen Colbert. Before the upcoming remake, Corman’s 1959 movie was first rebooted by director Jim Wynorski into a TV movie in 1995. The TV film remake was led by Jennifer Rubin and Doug Wert.
“I love working with these guys. Can’t wait!” Sedaris said in a statement.
Dinello added, “When I read the story about a former supermodel turned dynamic businesswoman who slowly metamorphosed into a violent insect, I immediately thought, Amy Sedaris.”
What do we know about The Wasp Woman remake?
“The new film will follow the original plot of The Wasp Woman, focusing on Janice Starlin, the founder of a cosmetics company who attempts to reverse the aging process using experimental enzymes derived from queen wasps, with disastrous results,” reads the initial synopsis.
The Wasp Woman remake will be led by Emmy Award nominee Sedaris (The Mandalorian), who has signed to play the titular role. Meanwhile, Dinello will be writing and directing the movie, which is currently in the pre-production phase. It will be produced by Mark Roberts, Jordan Fields of Radial Entertainment, which owns the Roger Corman library via its Shout! Studios brand, Meyer Shwarzstein of Another Brainy Idea, and Michael Richter of A Major Production.
