The Russo Brothers‘ new cryptic photo on social media related to Avengers: Doomsday has heightened anticipation for the film among fans. Consequently, people took to social media to analyze the image for clues and determine what it might refer to. Although the much-anticipated MCU film is a year away from release, there is considerable chatter about it online, especially when it comes to when the first teaser trailer for the film will be released.
Fans try to decipher the Russos’ new Avengers: Doomsday image
The Russo Brothers recently posted a new heavily blurred and grainy black-and-white photo on Instagram, teasing Avengers: Doomsday. However, the filmmakers did not elaborate on what the image represents, with the caption simply including a hashtag for the film.
Although no explanation was given for the new image, fans tried to analyze it and come up with their own conclusions. One user suggested that the V referred to the Roman numeral 5, and it meant that the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday would drop in five days. They wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “V as in 5. 5 days until the trailer drops.”
“Victor Von Doom,” another posted, referring to Doctor Doom’s real name. Notably, on first glance, the image shows a V, but if when turned upside down, it can seem like a cloaked figure, who is likely Doom.
“MEPHISTO CONFIRMED,” one user commented. This refers to the period in which fans speculated that Mephisto would appear in certain projects, like WandaVision and Spider-Man: No Way Home, before he appeared in Ironheart.
Meanwhile, one fan noted that the image resembled the logo seen on Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider’s jacket in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. They wrote, “It looks like the Robbie Reyes jacket logo.”
Yet another fan claimed that the image referenced the “crescent silhouette” representing Marc Spector/Moon Knight and Khonshu. They also suggested that it was a “split personality motif,” highlighting the former’s dissociative identity disorder.
Industry insider, Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK), also reacted to the image, saying, “Oh wow it’s… a tree?”
Notably, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for December 18, 2026. Meanwhile, its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, is slated for release on December 17, 2027.
