It: Chapter 3 Movie Gets Exciting Update 6 Years After Sequel
Recent comments from the creators of the It franchise indicate that It: Chapter 3 may still be under consideration. Although the 2019 sequel appeared to be a conclusion, Barbara Muschietti’s comments suggest the story could continue. It has sparked renewed discussion about a potential It: Chapter 3 several years after the sequel’s release.
It: Chapter 3 movie sequel is still a possibility
According to It: Welcome to Derry co-creator Barbara Muschietti, It: Chapter 3 movie sequel has not been ruled out.
The It adaptations, It: Chapter One (2017) and It: Chapter Two (2019), were widely praised and appeared to conclude the central storyline. However, Muschietti believes the franchise still contains unanswered questions that could support additional stories. In an interview with ScreenRant, she explained that Stephen King’s novel contains numerous unresolved elements that could be explored further on screen.
Muschietti said, “We shall see. It is a universe, and there are characters that are still fascinating. There are more gaps. When the great Stephen King wrote the book, I think that he left those holes on purpose. And if he didn’t do it on purpose, they’re just as great. They’re great accidents, but for us, they are a wonder.”
Muschietti said that revisiting the novel over the years has changed how she and her brother see the story. “In doing the first season, of course, we uncovered a lot of holes. And also, of course, we read the book for the first time when we were 14 and 15, and now we are 52 and 53. We’re parents, and the perspective changes all the time. So, I don’t know. I don’t think this is the end, basically, is all I’ll say,” the creator said.
Although HBO has not officially renewed It: Welcome to Derry for another season, Muschietti made it clear that she does not consider the series the final chapter of the franchise. While no plans for It: Chapter Three have been formally announced, Muschietti’s remarks make clear that the door remains open for future films or series.
