Zootopia 2 Box Office Crosses Huge Milestone in Record Time
Disney’s Zootopia 2 has officially crossed the $1 billion global mark in record-shattering time, making it the year’s biggest box office animated hit.
Zootopia 2 beats all animated movies to cross $1 billion
Zootopia 2 reached the coveted $1 billion milestone in just 17 days, beating the previous record for an animated film. This blistering pace surpasses Inside Out 2’s 19-day run to a billion, making it the fastest any Hollywood animation has ever achieved the feat. The film has now amassed a staggering global total of $1.137 billion and $259 million domestically.
This record-breaking speed has propelled Zootopia 2 to the top of the charts. It is now officially the No. 1 Motion Picture Association global release of the year. Additionally, it currently ranks as the seventh-highest-grossing animated title of all time worldwide. The film’s magnificent performance is driven by a massive international haul of $877.7 million. After all, it has already surpassed the entire global lifetime earnings of the first Zootopia.
A key driver of this success is the film’s extraordinary performance in China, where it has generated over $500 million, making it the No. 2 MPA release in that market behind only Avengers: Endgame. Other top markets contributing to the total include France ($36.4M), Korea ($35M), Japan ($27.7M), and Mexico ($24.9M). Furthermore, in its third weekend of release, the film added $131.1 million internationally, with modest drops in major territories.
The momentum extends to premium formats as well. Zootopia 2 has grossed $56.6 million globally in IMAX. This made it only the second animated title ever to cross the $50 million mark with the exhibitor. (via Deadline)
Produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Zootopia 2 is a 2025 American animated buddy-cop comedy. In the film, rookie-turned-pro detective Judy Hopps and her sharp-witted partner Nick Wilde are framed for a crime. In an effort to clear their names, they go on the run across Zootopia, trying to track a new suspect, the reptile Gary De’Snake.
