Supergirl Trailer Shows DCU Will Now Do What Superman Wouldn’t
The Supergirl trailer shows that dog lovers may be in for a rough time when watching the new DCU movie.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Supergirl will be released in United States theaters next June. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film sees Milly Alcock reprise her role as Supergirl/Kara Zor-El after she briefly appeared at the end of 2025’s Superman, which was directed by James Gunn.
With the first teaser trailer for Supergirl having just been released, the footage hints at a not-so-great future that may be in store for Krypto in the film.
What does the Supergirl trailer show us about Krypto?
The end of the Supergirl trailer features a brief moment where a seemingly injured Krypto is lying down while Kara, who clearly has tears in her eyes, is petting his head.

In the DC Comics miniseries that the movie is based on, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, Krypto gets shot with a poisonous arrow by the story’s antagonist, Krem of the Yellow Hills, who is being played by Matthias Schoenaerts. The seriously injured Krypto is taken away; eventually, he’s revealed to be alive and well, but he isn’t seen again until the very end of the miniseries. Assuming that Supergirl is accurately adapting Woman of Tomorrow, this means that animal lovers who don’t enjoy seeing dogs in pain might want to proceed with caution when it comes to seeing the film.
It’s also worth noting that Supergirl is seemingly willing to take this step when it comes to Krypto, whereas Gunn’s Superman was not. It was previously reported that a violent scene from Superman, where Ultraman punches Kyrpto, was cut from the movie after test screening audiences reacted negatively toward it.
Supergirl will be released in United States theaters on June 26, 2026.
