Top Gun 3, Heat 2, & The Rock Sequel Get Updates From Jerry Bruckheimer

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has shared some updates about Top Gun 3, Heat 2, and The Rock 2.

Bruckheimer has a number of projects he’s currently working on, including a sequel to Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick with Tom Cruise. Additionally, he’s attached to Michael Mann’s Heat 2, where there have long been talks about potentially making a sequel to 1996’s The Rock. 

What are the updates on Top Gun 3, Heat 2, and The Rock 2?

Speaking with HeyUGuys, Bruckheimer was asked about where Nicolas Cage’s character from The Rock, which was directed by Michael Bay and also stars Sean Connery, is up to now.

“Uh, he’s out there, somewhere,” Bruckheimer answered. “It’d be nice to try and find Stanley and make another one. They’re hard to do, let me tell you.”

In regard to Mann’s Heat 2, Bruckheimer said the movie will “hopefully” start shooting in August. He confirmed that Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to star in the movie and described him as being one of the “key elements” of the film alongside Mann’s involvement.

“Michael wrote a book that is absolutely brilliant, Heat 2,” Bruckheimer said. “And the screenplay is based on that book. It’s unbelievable. It’s such a ride, man, let me tell you. It’s really good…I produced Michael’s first movie, Thief. He called me up and said, ‘I’m trying to get this movie together, would you help me?’ And I said, ‘Sure.’ And here I am.”

As for Top Gun 3, Bruckheimer confirmed that the movie is still in development and will come together “hopefully soon.” He added, “We’re working on a screenplay right now, having meetings with Tom. Hopefully, we’ll pull it together.”

At this time, Top Gun 3 and Heat 2 do not have official release dates. A sequel to The Rock has yet to be formally announced.
