Hit Netflix Anime’s Live-Action Movie Gets 1st Trailer & Release Date
The upcoming live-action movie adaptation of Netflix‘s hit anime series, Sakamoto Days, has dropped its first trailer and release date. The adaptation and its release window were announced three months ago. Notably, an official poster featuring the main protagonist, Sakamoto Toro, was shared at the time of the announcement.
Sakamoto Days live-action movie sets April 2026 release date
The first trailer of the live-action Sakamoto Days movie was released by the film’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, which also revealed that the film would be released in Japan on April 29, 2026. However, the film’s release date in international markets remains unconfirmed as of writing. In addition, the upcoming film is expected to be released in two parts.
The teaser trailer clocks in at 30 seconds and offers a glimpse of what fans can expect from the film. The footage starts with a young, fit, and smartly dressed Taro Sakamoto reloading his gun and performing some stunts while shooting at his attackers.
It then cuts to a sequence of shots highlighting an older and portly Sakamoto’s retired life before showing a shot of him delivering a powerful kick to an intruder, Shin Asakura, at his convenience store.
Subsequent shots show Asakura shooting at his attackers and Sakamoto and his family enjoying a roller coaster ride. The footage concludes with Sakamoto jumping in the air and delivering a kick.
Both the live-action Sakamoto Days film and the anime are based on Yuto Suzuki’s manga series of the same name. Yuichi Fukuda, known for the live-action Gintama movie, directed the film and wrote its screenplay. Meanwhile, Keiya Tabuchi, who worked on the live-action adaptation of Attack on Titan, directed the film’s action sequences.
Ren Meguro, best known as a member of the idol group Snow Man, will star as Taro Sakamoto. He is joined by Fumiya Takahashi as Shin Asakura, Aya Ueto as Sakamoto’s wife, Aoi, and Miyu Yoshimoto as his daughter, Hana.
Sakamoto Days follows Sakamoto, a retired hitman who goes up against the criminal underworld to protect his family. His wife’s strict no-kill policy prompts him to handle his enemies with as little violence as possible.
