Simpsons Fans Think Film Sequel Got Delayed for This Reason

The recent delay of The Simpsons Movie 2 has stirred widespread fan speculation. After 20th Century Studios pushed the long-awaited sequel back by nearly two months, many viewers have begun questioning the reason behind the shift. The updated release date has quickly became a topic of discussion across social platforms, where theories about the decision continue to circulate.

The Simpsons movie sequel’s release date postponed by nearly two months

20th Century Studios has officially shifted the release of The Simpsons Movie 2, pushing the long-anticipated sequel from its original summer slot. The film, previously scheduled to hit theaters on July 23, 2027, will now debut on September 3, 2027, premiering over the Labor Day weekend.

The change was confirmed on December 5 through the studio’s official Instagram account. It was accompanied by promotional image depicting Homer Simpson injuring himself with a flag marked with the updated release date. The post read, “An all-new movie from The Simpsons, now coming to theaters Labor D’OH Weekend, 2027!”

The delay has sparked swift reactions across social media. Many viewers have speculated about the reason behind the shift, with some suggesting the studio wanted to avoid competition with Minecraft 2.

In the Instagram comments section, one user wrote, “Makes sense, there’s another big movie coming out on the og day.” Another added, “Got scared to compete with Minecraft huh?” along with emojis.

A third commenter remarked, “They didn’t wanna compete with a other SPECIFIC game movie.. otherwise they woulda caused chaos with their movie.” Meanwhile, on X (formerly Twitter), another user commented, “Most likely, Disney didn’t want it to compete with A Minecraft Movie 2 which was coming out the same day as Simpsons Movie 2’s original date so delayed it which is for the best in my opinion.”

The studio has not yet shared details about the sequel’s plot or confirmed the cast. However, the main voice performers from the series are expected to return, including Dan Castellaneta as Homer, Nancy Cartwright as Bart, Julie Kavner as Marge and Yeardley Smith as Lisa. No official announcement has been made so far.
