Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 Plot Details Teased by 2nd Movie’s Director

The box office success of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has flung open the doors to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza for a third one. With the sequel leaving fans with major cliffhangers, director Emma Tammi talks about whether a threequel is in the plans and if the original villain is being primed for a return.

What did Emma Tammi say about Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 movie?

Emma Tammi revealed that she and franchise creator Scott Cawthon always planned for the villain William Afton to return in a potential Five Nights at Freddy’s 3. Even though Afton appeared through Vanessa’s visions in the sequel, Tammi confirmed that his comeback was part of the long-term story roadmap.

“We end Movie One with him being dragged off, and the idea was always that he would be teed up at the end of Movie Two for a third film, should we be fortunate enough to make one,” Tammi told Variety. She added that the sequel’s glimpses of Afton were tied to Vanessa’s trauma, saying, “We get these great glimpses of William Afton throughout this film that are really more through the lens of Vanessa and her memories and PTSD from her relationship with him.”

According to Tammi, the closing moments of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 set the arc for what Afton “is now becoming and has become,” especially since the characters assume he’s dead. For the director, bringing him back is “such a great way to bring it back to Afton.”

The director also pointed to the mid-credits material as another deliberate setup for Five Nights at Freddy’s 3. “It was a mishmash also of picking up the Marionette at the end, as it intersects with Henry, and certainly as he’s reaching out to Mike. This film is really an introduction to Henry, without going too deep into his backstory. That recording felt like the perfect tease to nod our hat to the fact that we would be going deeper with him in a third film.”

All in all, with strong box-office momentum and arc threads firmly planted, it seems Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 could happen.
