Adam Sandler is once again getting Oscar buzz for his latest movie, which currently has him in decent standing to potentially nab his first Academy Award nomination.

Adam Sandler’s latest role is in Netflix’s Jay Kelly. The film, from director Noah Baumbach, sees Sandler star as the manager to Hollywood star Jay Kelly (played by George Clooney). It debuted on Netflix on December 5, 2025. While the film has earned mixed reviews, Sandler’s role in the film has earned some big praise.

JMuvies’ John Urbancich calls Sandler “simply terrific,” while Commentary Track’s Matt Goldberg also praises Sandler with an “outstanding performance.” Many other reviews also highlight the relationship between Sandler and Clooney as the best parts of the movie. Sandler is already beginning to gather award nominations.

While the film was not nominated for a Golden Globe, Sandler and Clooney both did nam nominations. Sandler’s nomination came in the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture, where he’s nominated alongside actors like Benicio Del Toro, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, and more.

On Gold Derby, a site that tracks and predicts award nominations, Sandler is also held in high standing for a potential Oscar nomination. Currently, Sandler sits sixth in odds for a Best Supporting Actor nomination. Although Sandler has had some high-profile roles throughout his career, the star has yet to be nominated for Hollywood’s biggest award in any capacity. Many thought he would be for his performance in 2019’s Uncut Gems, but he wasn’t.
