Supergirl Unveils First Teaser Ahead of DCU Movie’s Trailer Release
A new teaser for Supergirl has officially revealed Milly Alcock in the role of Kara Zor-El. The footage offers a first glimpse of the Kryptonian hero in James Gunn’s reimagined DC Universe. As the full trailer approaches, buzz around the film’s 2026 release continues to grow.
What happens in Supergirl first teaser?
The first official teaser for Supergirl shows Kara Zor-El sitting alone at a desolate station that resembles a bus stop in the middle of nowhere.
She wears sunglasses and a trench coat. A spaceship suddenly descends from the sky, kicking up dust and blowing her hair back. The teaser gives audiences their first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl in James Gunn’s reimagined DC Universe. It also confirms that the full trailer will arrive this week.
The teaser sets a new tone for Supergirl. It presents her with a grittier and more distinct identity than her cousin Superman. Kara makes her second theatrical appearance since the 1984 Supergirl movie. That film was originally created as a spin-off from the Christopher Reeve Superman series but was widely seen as a failure.
The 1984 version briefly returned in CG form during The Flash (2023), appearing next to Reeve’s Superman. The upcoming film wipes the slate clean and reintroduces Kara as part of Gunn’s updated DC continuity.
The cast includes Milly Alcock as Kara, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills. Jason Momoa plays Lobo. David Krumholtz appears as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, and Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll.
Craig Gillespie directs the film from a script by Ana Nogueira. The story follows Kara’s galactic journey with Krypto to celebrate her 21st birthday. Along the way, she meets Ruthye and joins her on a mission of revenge.
According to James Gunn, Kara had a cameo connection to Superman’s story involving Krypto, where Superman was watching the dog for her. Gunn said, “She’s off being irresponsible… then, when you find out at the end, it’s not even his dog; she just left it with him” (via Entertainment Weekly).
Supergirl will premiere in theaters on June 26, 2026.
