The Simpsons Movie 2 Release Date Delayed for Anticipated Movie

The Simpsons Movie 2 release date has been change, with the much anticipated sequel to the 2007 movie getting a bit of a delay.

When is The Simpsons Movie 2 release date?

According to an announcement from Disney, the release date for the second Simpsons movie, which still has no official title, has been pushed back to September 3, 2027. This means the film is shifting back two months, as it was previously dated for a July 23, 2027 release.

The Simpsons received their first theatrical film, titled The Simpsons Movie, in 2007. Directed by David Silverman and based on the long-running animated sitcom created by Matt Groening, the film was a massive box office hit, as it brought in approximately $536.4 million worldwide. Talks of a sequel have been happening for years now, but there was never any major advancement.

However, the project took a huge step forward earlier this year, when Disney and 20th Century Studios announced that the film would be coming. A poster for the movie was also shown off, showcasing Homer Simpson’s hand reaching out for a donut with a ton of “2” sprinkles on it.

The Simpsons Movie from 2007, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on Disney+. The synopsis for that film reads, “The combination of Homer (Dan Castellaneta), his new pet pig, and a leaky silo full of excrement triggers a disaster that threatens not just Springfield but the entire world. An angry mob descends on the Simpson home, splitting the family. With Earth’s fate in the balance, Homer sets out on a quest for redemption in order to save the world and earn Marge’s (Julie Kavner) forgiveness.”

That movie received positive reviews from both fans and critics, as it currently has an 87 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. It received a nomination for Best Animated Feature at the 2007 Golden Globe Awards, among other accolades.
