Sigourney Weaver Gives Update on Alien Return Following Script Announcement

Sigourney Weaver has given an update regarding her return to the Alien franchise.

Weaver is known for playing Ellen Ripley in the Alien franchise, with the character having appeared in 1979’s Alien, 1986’s Aliens, 1992’s Alien 3, and 1997’s Alien Resurrection, though the Alien Resurrection version of the character is technically a clone. There have since been a number of other Alien movies — 2004’s Alien vs. Predator, 2007’s Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, 2012’s Prometheus, 2017’s Alien: Covenant, and 2024’s Alien: Romulus — that Weaver has not been a part of.

This past October, however, Weaver announced at New York Comic-Con that she could be returning as Ripley in a future Alien movie.

“Walter Hill is a very good friend of mine, and he wrote 50 pages where Ripley would be now, and they are quite extraordinary,” Weaver said. “I don’t know if it’s going to happen, but I have had a meeting with Fox, Disney, or whoever it is now.”

What did Sigourney Weaver say about Alien?

Speak with Variety, Weaver provided a brief update about her return to the Alien franchise.

“You know, we’re just taking it one step at a time,” she said. “It is very interesting. I hope we do it, because I think it will be wonderful. I think the fans will enjoy it, but it’s very early days.”

Weaver also said at New York Comic-Con, “I said I have never felt the need [to revisit Ripley]. I was always like, let her rest, let her recover. But what Walter has written seems so true to me as very much about the society that would incarcerate someone who has tried to help mankind.”

At this time, an Alien project starring Weaver has not been officially announced by 20th Century Studios. It is known that a sequel to Alien: Romulus is in the works, though that movie does not yet have a release date.
