Star Wars Reveals Kylo Ren’s Unseen Lightsaber
Star Wars recently published the latest issue of its Legacy of Vader comic book series, set between the events of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. The issue sees Kylo Ren wield a completely different lightsaber from his signature crossguard lightsaber. In the issue, Ren, who traveled to Mustafar to learn more about his grandfather, Darth Vader’s life, and his use of the dark side, fights against Vaneé, the caretaker of the latter’s castle, Fortress Vader.
Kylo Ren’s never-before-seen lightsaber gets first look
Star Wars: Legacy of Vader Issue #11 opens with Kylo Ren resting in a bacta tank as Vaneé, eager for Darth Vader to be reborn through the former, tells him that he must die. The latter stresses that Anakin Skywalker also had to die and that death is an important part of the journey for the Skywalker family.
Vanée encases Ren in Vader’s armor and tries to submerge him in lava, hoping to recreate Darth Vader’s birth. However, Ren breaks out and escapes. While escaping, he hears Vanée gloating about his wisdom, his role as Vader’s aide, and Vader’s legacy. However, Ren ignores him, even as Vanée reminds him that he followed in Vader’s footsteps so that he would one day take his place.
Kylo Ren eventually comes across a group of Darktroopers and fights them unarmed until he spots a collection of Jedi lightsabers. He picks up one of them, a gold-hilted lightsaber that emits a green blade, and wards them off. The blade doesn’t stay green for long as Ren bleeds it red using the dark side of the Force. Further, the energy emitted by the blade becomes unstable, likely as a result of Ren’s strength and immense power within the Force and his status as a Force dyad with Rey.
Ren defeats the remaining Darktroopers using the lightsaber and confronts Vanée, who accepts defeat and asks the former to kill him. Before killing Vanée, Ren asks him if Vader’s Vault is real and contains his power, only for Vanée to say that he does not know since Vader didn’t allow him in there.
As he crushes Vanée to death, Ren tells him that he is already everything he needs to be. Vanée responds by expressing his delight that Ren has honored Vader’s legacy.
