Marvel Fans Think Scarlett Johansson’s DC Role Could Be Bad News for Avengers 5 & 6
A recent update on The Batman – Part 2 has ignited a wave of fan speculation online. Scarlett Johansson’s potential casting in the DC sequel has raised questions about her future with Marvel, prompting concerns among longtime Avengers fans. As both cinematic universes gear up for major releases, her next move has become a key topic of conversation.
Scarlett Johansson’s The Batman 2 might confirm she won’t return to MCU
Scarlett Johansson is in final talks to join Matt Reeves’ The Batman – Part 2, as confirmed by Nexus Point News on December 3, 2025. The outlet reports Johansson may play either a new love interest for Bruce Wayne or a potential villain. Her exact role remains undisclosed. Grace Randolph suggested she could portray a villain. Online speculation points to characters such as Poison Ivy, The Phantasm, or Jessica Dent.
Fans reacted to the news across social media. One user wrote, “Scarlett really said bye to Marvel Studios and just said EY WHATS UP DC”. Another commented, “So that means she’s definitely not coming back in Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.”
Others added, “Any possibility of her Avengers: Secret Wars return just went down the drain now.” Another fan wrote, “She definitely won’t return for any Avengers sequels after this, not even as a variant!”
Johansson’s move to Warner Bros. and DC Studios follows her departure from the MCU, where she portrayed Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. Johansson stated, “It would be very hard for me to understand in what capacity [returning] would make sense for me, for the character that I play,” explaining that the character’s arc is complete and that she doesn’t want to “mess with that” (via Vanity Fair).
Matt Reeves has kept details of The Batman – Part 2 under wraps, stating in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “Because of what the first movie was and what [Part 2] is, which is so much a detective story, the idea of trying to protect the secrets of the movie is super important.”
Reeves confirmed that Robert Pattinson read the script. Pattinson received it in a secure envelope that required a code to open. “He’s Batman, so if he doesn’t like it, not good,” Reeves said. “The things that it does for his character… has never been done before in this way.”
Johansson has joined upcoming projects like Jurassic World and the Exorcist remake, signaling a shift to new franchises. Although rumors previously linked her to Avengers: Doomsday, she stated that her time as Black Widow has ended.
