WWE Champion Joins Cast of Star-Studded Netflix Movie The Bodyguard

A WWE champion is getting ready to make a bigger name for himself in Hollywood, joining the cast of the upcoming rom-com The Bodyguard at Netflix.

What WWE champion has joined the cast of The Bodyguard?

Current WWE World Heavyweight Champion and legend CM Punk has joined the cast of The Bodyguard, according to a new report from Deadline. The film, which stars Jared Padalecki and Leighton Meester, is based on the Katherine Center novel of the same name.

The novel centers around “a no-nonsense bodyguard,” who “is assigned to protect a charming action star over the holidays, leading sparks to fly and secrets to unravel, with Christmas getting a whole lot more complicated.”

It’s currently unclear just how closely the movie will adhere to the book. As for Punk (real name Phillip Brooks) and his role, Deadline notes he’ll play Doghouse, a ”physically intimidating member of the security detail, who is known for his loyalty and humor.”

Alongside the trio of stars, The Bodyguard is also set to star Andie MacDowell, Walker Hayes, Noah LaLonde, and Toby Sandeman. The movie is directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum (Aquamarine), and written by Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith.

Padalecki appeared in last year’s Fire Country series for a guest-starring role as Camden. He will next be seen in the final season of The Boys, reuniting him with Supernatural co-stars Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins. As for Meester, besides appearing in Nobody Wants This Season 2, she will also star in Rachel Sennott’s upcoming HBO comedy series I Love LA.
