2023 Sci-Fi Movie From Star Wars Director Sets Prime Video Streaming Date
Prime Video has set the streaming release date for a 2023 action sci-fi movie. John David Washington-led The Creator, helmed by Gareth Edwards, originally premiered in theaters on September 29, 2023. The story explores the complexities of artificial intelligence (AI) and the dangers it brings to humanity. At the time of its release, the film received generally positive reviews from critics.
The Creator begins streaming on Prime Video in December
The Prime Video streaming release date for The Creator is December 20, 2025. Following its release in 2023, the film, made on an $80 million budget, grossed $104.3 million at the global box office.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts a 67% fresh score on Tomatometer and 75% on Popcornmeter. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the film has a metascore of 63 and a user score of 6.3, both indicating ‘Generally Favorable’ reviews.
Filming primarily took place in Thailand, Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam, Japan, and Indonesia. However, some scenes were reportedly shot at Pinewood Studios in England.
The story is set in a dystopian 2070, 15 years after artificial intelligence caused a nuclear detonation in Los Angeles and sparked a devastating war between humans and AI. The narrative follows Joshua, a former special forces agent who is grieving the loss of his wife, Maya. Joshua is recruited by the U.S. Army to find and kill The Creator, a mysterious being who has created a powerful weapon capable of not only ending the war between humans and AI but also humanity itself.
In addition to directing the film, Gareth Edwards co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Weitz. He also wrote the story and co-produced the film with Arnon Milchan, Jim Spencer, and Kiri Hart. Hans Zimmer composed the film’s music, while Greig Fraser and Oren Soffer are behind the film’s cinematography.
Besides John David Washington, The Creator also stars Gemma Chan, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, Allison Janney, and Ken Watanabe, among others.
