Supergirl Villain Matthias Schoenaerts Sentenced to 6 Months in Jail

Supergirl star Matthias Schoenaerts has been sentenced to 6 months in jail. With production details about the film still under wraps, the news has drawn attention to the project at a critical moment.

Supergirl’s Matthias Schoenaerts gets prison sentence and driving ban

The police court in Beringen sentenced actor Matthias Schoenaerts, 47, to six months’ imprisonment, a €4,000 fine, and a one-year driving ban for driving without a valid licence. The court delivered the sentence in absentia.

According to VRTNWS, police arrested Schoenaerts last week in Pelt after he allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer test. However, his conviction is not connected to his arrest last week.

Police stopped Schoenaerts twice on his motorbike in Pelt, Limburg, on April 5 and April 21, 2024, while he drove without a valid licence. Authorities had banned him from driving in Antwerp in September 2021 for drug use while operating a vehicle. After the ban, he needed to complete recovery tests and retake his driving exams but failed to do so.

The actor reportedly has a history of traffic violations. In the most recent ruling, he was additionally ordered to retake all driving tests as part of his sentencing. The six-month prison sentence is not immediately enforceable. Schoenaerts retains the right to appeal. The latest incident that brought attention to his case occurred a week before the sentencing.

Schoenaerts is set to appear in the DC Universe’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Krem of the Yellow Hills. DC Studios has not commented on the conviction.

He’s also played key roles in several critically acclaimed movies like Amsterdam, A Hidden Life, Rust and Bone, and many more.
