Angelina Jolie Is a Female Gangster in ‘Violent’ Mafia Movie

Angelina Jolie is getting ready for a new role, as she’s set to star in and produce a new dark thriller where she plays a female gangster.

According to a new report from Deadline, Jolie has begun production on a new film, titled Sunny, from director Eva Sørhaug (Tokyo Vice).

According to Deadline’s report, the movie will follow a female gangster (Jolie), who “fights to protect her sons — and herself — from an abusive drug kingpin. But when a devastating event occurs, she only has a matter of hours to plot their permanent escape,” reads the film’s logline.

William Day Frank wrote the script for the film. Alongside Jolie, Nathan Klingher, Mark Fasano, and Jeffrey Greenstein are set to produce the project. In a statement to Deadline, Fasano said that people will be “shocked” to see what Jolie’s performance delivers, and notes that the movie will take place in a “violent world.”

“People are going to be shocked by what she brings with this riveting character. This violent world that Eva and Angelina have crafted is grounded in survival and family led by a mother doing anything and everything within her power to protect her two boys.”

Jolie’s acting career is prolific, but the star has slowed down since her role in 2021’s Eternals. In 2024, she starred in Maria, a biopic where she played Maria Callas. In 2025, she starred in Couture, and she’s also set to star in the upcoming comedy film Anxious People from director Marc Forster.
