Avatar 3 First Reactions Are Glowing: ‘Best of the Trilogy So Far’

The first reactions to Avatar 3, also known as Avatar: Fire and Ash, are about as positive as you’d expect.

20th Century Studios is releasing Avatar: Fire and Ash later this month. Directed by James Cameron, the sequel to 2009’s Avatar and 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water sees Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña reprise their respective roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri.

With Avatar: Fire and Ash now having some lucky audiences, those who have seen the movie are praising its visuals and its story on social media. Some are saying that it’s the best Avatar film yet, while others aren’t quite that high on it.

The review embargo for Avatar 3 doesn’t lift until December 16, meaning it will still be a couple of weeks before its Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes is revealed. The first Avatar movie landed at 81 percent on the Tomatometer and 82 percent on the Popcornmeter, while Avatar: The Way of Water ended with 76 percent on the Tomatometer and 92 percent on the Popcornmeter.

The official synopsis for the movie reads, “With Avatar: Fire and Ash, James Cameron takes audiences back to Pandora in an immersive new adventure with Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Na’vi warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and the Sully family.”

In addition to Worthington and Saldaña, the cast of Avatar 3 includes Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, David Thewlis, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, Britain Dalton, Jamie Flatters, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Brendan Cowell, Bailey Bass, Filip Geljo, Duane Evans, Jr., and Kate Winslet.

Avatar: Fire and Ash arrives in United States theaters and IMAX on December 19, 2025.
