Jonathan Bailey Answers if He’ll Play Batman or James Bond

Jonathan Bailey has addressed the possibility of him playing the next James Bond or Batman in James Gunn’s DCU. In an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the actor did not directly express interest in taking on the roles, but engaged in playful banter with Fallon, jokingly asking the latter if he would costar as the two iconic characters’ closest allies: Moneypenny and Robin.

In an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on November 4, 2025, Jimmy Fallon told Jonathan Bailey about rumors that fans want to see him as the next James Bond. Fallon expressed his support for Bailey as a potential candidate for the role, adding, “After seeing ‘Wicked’ and then seeing ‘Jurassic World,’ I’m like, ‘This guy can do everything.’ You’re phenomenal.”

Bailey responded by jokingly saying that he would only play Bond if Fallon costarred alongside him in the next film. The former then jokingly asked Fallon if he would play Moneypenny opposite him, to which the latter humorously agreed.

Fallon informed Bailey about chatter that people wanted to see him as Batman. The latter responded by jokingly asking the former if he would play Robin. Fallon happily and jokingly agreed, saying, “Yes! I would totally be Robin if you’re Batman.”

Fallon then asked the Jurassic World: Rebirth star if he would be open to playing Batman in James Gunn’s DCU. The latter replied, “Would I do Batman? Listen, I grew up with Val Kilmer, George Clooney, obviously Christian Bale, and Robert Pattinson.” He continued, “It’s a legacy. And I think James Gunn is amazing.”

Bailey did not directly express interest in playing Batman, but wondered what he would tell Fallon in his next appearance on the show. “Who knows? Who knows what the next Jimmy Fallon appearance…,” Bailey said before interrupting himself with a laugh. Fallon responded by saying that Bailey brought “some amazing news” every time he appeared on the show.

Neither the DCU Batman nor the next James Bond has been cast as of writing. Gunn revealed in an interview with IGN in September that many “big actors” have expressed interest in playing the Dark Knight. Meanwhile, Deadline reported that Denis Villeneuve was eyeing a “fresh face” to take on Bond and that casting would begin after he wraps up production on Dune: Part Three.
