DCU Fans Decide if Batman Should Get a Blue & Grey Suit
A recent wave of online reactions has brought renewed attention to the look of Batman in the upcoming DCU reboot. Following remarks from DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn about costume preferences, fans have taken to social media to voice their opinions on the iconic Batsuit design. With The Brave and the Bold still in development, the debate over Batman’s appearance is quickly becoming a focal point of fan discussion.
Batman fans react to James Gunn’s recent suit comment
James Gunn recently confirmed that the “most requested thing” for the new DCU Batman is “the blue and grey” suit, followed by “the yellow around the bat” and “then the white eyes.” He added, “But all of those things I find less important than the character himself, the writing, and the person who plays him.” This response came after he was asked on social media if the white eyes were the most requested design element.
Following Gunn’s comments, fans on X (formerly Twitter) reacted by expressing support for a comic-accurate Batman costume. One user said, “The people who said the blue suit can’t work in live action are the same people who said trunks won’t work on a modern day Superman… there hasn’t been more of a perfect time.” Another user posted, “Gotta be blue and grey. We’ve seen the all black tactical BS forever now. Please bring it back to the OG color palette.”
Others supported bold changes to the suit’s appearance. One user wrote, “Honestly just cast the State Farm Batman and give him the bold blue/ navy at this point.” Another added, “Yes but those things would be cool AF James. For me this is exactly what I’d go with as the template.” A different user commented, “We saw it in the DCEU can’t wait to see it in the DCU.”
Gunn previously discussed the Batsuit, indicating he’s open to the idea but hasn’t made a final decision yet. The new Batman will debut in The Brave and the Bold, which centers on Damian Wayne. Gunn said, “This is the story of Damian Wayne, who is Batman’s actual son… He was raised as a little murderer and assassin… He’s my favorite Robin.” Peter Safran confirmed that other Bat-family members will also be included in the film.
