Jordan Peele & Sam Raimi Unite for New Horror Movie
Acclaimed horror filmmakers Jordan Peele and Sam Raimi are officially teaming up to produce Universal Pictures’ newly acquired horror spec, titled Portrait of God. The film will be based on Dylan Clark’s viral horror short, which has already garnered more than 8.6 million views on YouTube since 2022.
What do we know about Jordan Peele and Sam Raimi’s first horror movie together?
According to Deadline, the Portrait of God movie will be written by Clark and Joe Russo. Further details about its plot are still under wraps, but it’s expected to expand on the original short’s world. Peele and Win Rosenfeld will be producing through their Monkeypaw Productions banner, along with Raimi and Romel Adam for Ghost House Pictures, and Russo. It will be executive-produced by Chris Rosati, with Sam Evenson also serving as a co-producer. Ghost House’s Jose Cañas and Universal Pictures executive Sara Scott have been tapped to oversee the project.
“The short centers on a religious young woman who discovers the disquieting answer to the question, ‘What does God look like?’ The story finds Mia sitting in the dark, practicing a slide presentation about a work of art dubbed ‘Portrait of God.’ To some who view the painting, she says, it appears completely black,” reads the short’s description. “But others report seeing a person in the darkness — one who’s been described time and again, in consistent detail. Minimalistic yet menacing, the short offers a counterpoint to the idea of God as a benevolent entity. Viewers of the portrait, beware.”
