Batman: James Gunn Reveals What’s Most Important About DCU Version

James Gunn has recently opened up about what he’s looking for when it comes to the DCU’s Batman, and what’s most important to him.

What did James Gunn say about the DCU Batman?

In a recent post on Threads, a fan asked Gunn what his most requested thing is for whenever Batman makes his debut in the DCU. The question specifically mentioned a potential animated cowl, but Gunn revealed that several other things were ahead of that, yet none more important than one thing.

“The most requested thing would be the blue and grey,” said Gunn, referring to Batman’s costume color. “Then the yellow around the bat. And THEN the white eyes. But all of those things I find less important than the character himself, the writing, and the person who plays him.”

As of now, pretty much nothing is known about the planned Batman DCU movie. The film, titled The Brave and the Bold, was originally announced in 2023, and is said to be inspired by Grant Morrison’s era of Batman comics. IT director Andy Muschietti is directing the project, although little in the way of updates has been made.

Currently, Gunn has said his focus on the world of Batman is on The Batman: Part II, which is currently in production from director Matt Reeves. That film will star Robert Pattinson as Batman, and is set to come out on October 1, 2027.
