Why Disney Canceled Zootopia 2’s Hong Kong Premiere
In a shocking turn of events, Disney has canceled the Zootopia 2 premiere in Hong Kong in the wake of the recent devastating fires that have affected the region. The entertainment conglomerate confirmed in a recent statement that it would be scrapping the said event in an attempt to honor the people who have tragically lost their lives in the disaster.
Zootopia 2’s Hong Kong premiere canceled after high-rise fires wreak havoc in the region
After the high-rise fires in the Tai Po district of Hong Kong claimed multiple lives, Disney has called off the premiere of the recently released Zootopia 2 in the country. The film arrived in US theaters on November 26, 2025.
“Due to a serious incident that occurred in Hong Kong, the scheduled appearance of Joey Yung at the ‘Friendtastic!’ parade, Disney’s Zootopia 2 Selected Magic Access Members Special Screening at Hong Kong Disneyland, and the evening Gala Premiere at Hong Kong Disneyland on Nov. 27, 2025 (Thursday) have been canceled,” the officials of the adventure park announced in an official statement on Instagram. In addition, Hong Kong Disneyland executives canceled a fireworks show. It was to take place on the day of Zootopia 2’s premiere. “Due to an incident in Hong Kong and out of respect, tonight’s Momentous: Party in the Night Sky will be canceled. Thank you for your understanding,” the park officials further conveyed via an Instagram story.
The Disneyland officials also accommodated the visitors who had planned to spend their day at the establishment by extending the validity of their tickets. “Guests who entered the park today with a valid ticket may use the original ticket for revisit on another day within 6 months from the day of entry,” confirmed the park executives.
Notably, at least 83 people have lost their lives in the fires that have ravaged public housing apartment buildings in the Tai Po district, as per the South China Morning Post. On-ground responders have assured residents that the fires are now “under control.” However, the reported missing people toll of 300 continues to be a topic of concern for them.
